The Hemperor, Jack Herer, has Died

Jack HererJack HererSALEM, Oregon – The sad news has been confirmed. Jack Herer, author of Emperor Wears No Clothes and renowned around the world for hemp activism, has died at 11:17 a.m. today, Thursday April 15th 2010, in Eugene, Oregon.

Jack Herer suffered a heart attack last September just after speaking on stage at the Portland HempStalk festival. The last seven months have proven to be a huge challenge to the man, with several health issues making his recovery complicated.

Jack Herer’s health has been poor lately, this last week there have been reports of the severity, and an outpouring of prayers on his behalf.

“It’s shocking news, even after these last seven, trying months,” said Paul Stanford, THCF Executive Director. “Jack Herer has been a good friend and associate of mine for over 30 years. I was there when he had the heart attack at our Hempstalk festival and I know he wouldn’t appreciate the quality of life he’s endured these last months. Still he will be greatly missed. I honor his memory.”

“No other single person has done more to educate people all across the world about industrial hemp and marijuana as Jack Herer. His book is translated into a dozen different languages, it’s a bestseller in Germany,” added Stanford.

“The Hempstalk stage will forever be the Jack Herer Memorial stage. And, a Memorial is planned to be built where he fell that day,” Stanford said. “His legacy will continue to inspire and encourage for generations to come.”

Rest in peace Jack.I honestly believe all highschool students be given a copy of this book perhaps even include it in thier studies.

After all this book is all about hatred and corruption and we need to educate rather than brainwash.

They would inturn bring it home to parents to read and the student now have something they take home and educate the parents and the grandparents who have been lied to the longest.

Jack your book uncovers the biggest lie the planet has ever seen, welldone Jack

Jack has been a father figure to me for well over a decade, in fact, he spent most of my birthdays with me whenever he could. With me, he was true from his heart, genuine and personal there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t talk with me about, nor that we didn’t talk about, including the things a daughter don’t want to hear about from a father -but with Jack, I heard it all, just as have many others who are near and dear to him I’m sure, especially if they wern’t directly involved with what he had to say and were a trusted female within his life.
Jack is ALOT like my own father, my father was just Jack to the 50th power, especially when it come to his mouth being heard and his stubborness and determination with persuing what he believed to be justice! My father was 52 when I was born, so I grew up amongst the “dinasaurs” so to speak. He was born before and lived through the great depression, had served as an army man through WW2 includng surviving as a POW to the japanese, thru in and beyond the korean conflict as with Phillip Leveque, another near and dear of my dinasaurs and went on to work and retire from the DOD. Talk about a hard egg to crack…those of you with adinasaur in their life know Exactly what I mean. They are gruff exteriorly, but inside they are a genuine Treasure and a blessing to penetrate and come to know.
I was the Only one to this day who ever did and get through to the wonder within my father. And I learned to admire ad appreciate that ability at a young age. Fortunate for the world there are many who got through and became loved by Jack – his footsteos are more clearly defined for us to see.
I always heard what a “shame” that was going to be for me, growing up with such an age gap, but I tell you, it was the biggest honor I ever could have had, because it made me who I am. When I came to know Jack, he was much that way, yet such a teddybear compared to a man like my father, Because of my father though, I was prepared to win the respect and love of yet another father, and I did many many moons ago. I am blessed for that.
As you will hear as time goes by, the dinasaurs were not “perfect”, but they were genuine. They can be real hard-ass and stubbrn when they choose to be, but there lines are firmly and plainly drawn right there in the sand, and they will not budge one inch so longas they believe they’re in the right or are justified, but once they take you under there wing and allow you into your heart – it’s a forever thing.
I have had the honor to get within and come to know many wonderful dinasaurs in my time, and I tell you there is no greater treasure or reward you can ever have. And as they open up to you from the depths of their hearts, a bond forms that can never be hindered or taken away. There connection is to you, ther wisdom guides and leads you, and even though they come and go, they come and go forever – they come and they go….never stay completely away.
I know the “real Jack”, for the good and the bad, his accomplishments as well as his regrets, his joys, and also his sorrows – beyond his fame and his public image, is a beautiful heart and spirit within. Jack the man is caring and loving and kind, unless you pissed him off or found yourself on the wrong side of his line. Even then though, he’d let ya get away with it to a certain degree, especially if he thought of you as family. He is a proud man and father whose only real regret was not spending Quality time with his own kids… he was too busy trying to save the world for them, and all of us. Jack had his up times, and also his downs. his good days and his bad – he was a man. His body, like all of ours, will one day go away, but pleasure and memories, direction and teachings, his works and his spirit will forever live on.
Jack has accomplished so much more that meets the public eye. He has 6 Beautiful children and grandchildren and relatives beyond. He is so very proud of them each in their own ways, and he loves his grand babies so very much…. he just worried they didn’t know… he wanted them to know. He also has countless friends and fans, stretched all over the entire globe. He’s travelled the world as a gypsy and loved every minute of it, and has lived and seen more than most of us ever will or could even imagine – with open arms and loving hands, cheers and praise and bowls all the way. He’s changed the world and world history forever….His footprints are there to be found and to follow, just watch your step and avoid the mis-steps if you can, because he loves each one of us and he wants us to tread on without fail! God bless you my beloved father, rest well and come soon! We love and will miss you eternally. Even the earth cried out this day, the day our prophet and savior passed physically away – Until we meet again my friend…eternal peace and love be to you and the world. I love you!!

to post it. I love that man with all my heart and have swollen eyes still, and I can still sympathize w/ your experiences. But please let us mourn in peace w/o having to hear ill of the dead when he just passed 4 days ago. Please and Thank you in advance. Peace, Seeva Cherms

Guess they skipped having you write the obit for a reason. Frankly…to write that at this time (even if true, which doubt), is low. You show yourself for what you are, by your timing as much as your words. Jack will be missed…you won’t.

Fronted 2 lb.’s and never opened the bags? Uh huh, right. Why would you slag someone who just died?
Even if what you are saying has the remotest ring of truth, defiling his name is pathetic and base.
You must be a horrible person yourself. All people in the industry profit, it’s a business after all. I guess you would have all marijuana products available for free? Get a life…………business is business. Why don’t you grow your own and hand it all out for free? Seeing as you are such a fucking hero, and a fucking imbecile.

Someday I’ll tell you all my Jack Herer stories. You won’t believe them. I didn’t believe them as they were happening to me. That dude is one of the worst people I have ever met. Ask ANYONE who has ever done business with him. He was a thief in the worst possible way. He would steal any WEED that was left out on the table. Growers would come up to him to show him what they had grown, to get his opinion and he would stick his hand in the bag, grab an handful and literally put it in his pocket. Most people wouldn’t say anything just stand here in shock as their idol stole their WEED. I know it’s not what you guys want to hear, but it is the truth. Most of the old hippie guard in the WEED movement are gypsy thieves who will rob you blind if they get the chance. Also, Jack’s posse grew really crappy weed….I mean really crappy. I was fronted 2 pounds to try n sell, I never even opened the bags.

Hate to be the guy to ruins the memories, but this guy was a major dick. We owe him a debt of gratitude for being the only one in the legalization movement who would use his real name and for leading the charge of legalization, but please know that he was an unpleasant person to be around and he gave no thought to victimizing members of the movement at every possible opportunity. Jack felt like all the pot smokers in the world owed him all of their WEED and pipes and he was not afraid to steal it all. I have done business with the man, hung out with him socially and professionally (way more than I would have liked) and I can say that he was a major douche that most of you would have hated…not disliked…HATED.

Anyone coming to THC Expo can hear about some of Jack’s techniques for stealing WEED, merchandise and credibility from the modern WEED movement.

Not trying to piss anybody off, but not telling you guys the truth on this one would amount to my own lie, and I’m not going to start that now, cause I don’t want to end up hated and alone the way Jack Herer did. He spent his final years surrounded by leaches trying to live off his fame. He hated them, they hated him, it was a really f’d up scene.

Rest In Peace Jack, I hope my legacy is a little less felonious.

P.S. He used to be my idol too

Jack Herer, may we continue to HEAR the thunder of your voice calling us to action, to SMELL the heavenly aroma of the Cannabis Hemp Plant, to TASTE the lovely fruits of hemp foods that are so healthy for us, to FEEL the luscious touch of hemp clothing against our bodies and to SEE Cannabis Hemp legalized and respected ,as it once was in the past! You brought us all so much knowledge about Hemp, that was hidden from us for decades! Thank you for not giving up, when people didn’t, at first, believe you. You told me that everyone even laughed at you, thought you were “crazy loon” and wouldn’t even read your book. You walked Venice Beach and talked to every person who would listen to you about Hemp. You walked your talk and talked your walk until “THEY”, finally, believed you! The truth came to light, as it always does! I have found COURAGE & FREEDOM with your words of advice and wisdom! I miss your beaming smile that always lit up when you were happy to see someone you loved, your strong but gentle hugs and your calls asking me “what are you doing, now?” For NOW is when we need to act to see the change we desire. What you brought to the WORLD was a gift of love and hope for a dying planet! Your Mom, I’m sure, is so proud of you (as we all are) and I know she is happy to have you with her, now! (You’ve always missed her, so!) Jack, I wish you sweet, sweet peace, dear heart, and may the rest of us aspire to continue what you have started!

you’re right, legalization isn’t gonna happen on its own… but the one initiative that made it to ballot in california–JACK WAS AGAINST.

at the hemp festival where he gave his passionate last speech, just before he collapsed with the heart attack that never recovered from, his last words were an urgent call to californians to vote against the Tax and Regulate Cannabis initiative:

“I don’t want to f___ing give the United States govern-
ment one f___ing dollar of taxes. I think that they should
go to f___ing jail for getting you and me and 20 million
people getting arrested for pot. It is the safest thing you
can do in the universe. And that is what we are going to
do in California. Okay? Come over to my booth,
over there, and I will see you next time.”

so please don’t think you will honor his life by voting in the initiative to tax cannabis. vote against it! let’s honor his life by getting the JACK HERER INITIATIVE, that he wrote himself, on the ballot in the 2012 elections. (it was by far the best of them all, but it didn’t have the funding to gather enough signatures to make it on the ballot.)

Dont worry,I am sure there’s plenty to smoke up there in Heavens.
Now that youre gone I think humanity is orphaned but I do hope the people have understood YOUR MESSAGE..before you departed because mind you…nothing less than the future of humanity is at stake here depending whether they grow or do not grow this single plant on Earth.Thank you again for what you have done trying to make this planet more hospitable.
