From The New York Times: “With Detroit facing a budget crisis, Police Chief Ella Bully-Cummings announced plans to lay off 150 police officers and merge the city’s 12 police precincts into six district stations.”
In addition, the department’s command staff will be reduced, with those savings used to allow 35 to 40 police officers to keep their jobs. Chief Bully-Cummings said she would also reallocate officers assigned to desk and other support jobs, freeing about 250 officers and allowing a net gain of about 100 officers on patrol after the layoffs. …that Michigan laid off 100 state police. What steps were taken to assure that tehy were the ones with the most marijuana arrests? If we’re going to cut the fat, we have to get rid of bad apples. Malingers who concentrate on pot busts (who should be obvious from their record of arrests) can be dispersed without any fundamental threat to the public safety.
And ought to be.
In police terms, they are bloat.
