PICKENS COUNTY, SOUTH CAROLINA — An Easley teenager is recovering from a gunshot wound after struggling with a Pickens County Sheriff’s deputy during an arrest that netted two pounds of marijuana, authorities said.
Cameron Douglas Seay of 400 Thornberry Ridge Road was shot about 10 p.m. Monday near the Town Creek Shopping Center, according to the sheriff’s office.
When deputies attempted an arrest, “(Seay) bolted from the vehicle and tried to flee. A struggle ensued between the officer and the suspect, at which time the officer’s weapon discharged, striking the suspect in the buttocks,” according to a sheriff’s press release.
Seay, who faces charges of possessing marijuana with intent to distribute and resisting arrest, was transported to Greenville Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, according to the release.
A South Carolina Law Enforcement Division investigation into the shooting has been requested, according to the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office.
