Cannabis culture is about more than growing pot and smoking it. It includes our rituals, philosophies, music, arts, and the way we see the world and ourselves. It’s no surprise that there are members of the cannabis culture who mark their flesh with homage to herb in the form of body art:
When I heard that a regular Cannabis Culture contributor, Mark Bode, was not just an amazing cartoonist but a tattoo artist as well, my interest was piqued. I headed to San Francisco to visit Bode where he works, Sacred Rose Tattoo. Owner Karen Rose had spread the word about my interest in pot tattoos. Local Shawn K. came by to add a second marijuana-related image to his extensively inked body, and his brother dropped in to show me the massive cannabis-themed tattoo on his back. Over the next three and a half hours, the tattooist, Jean Chen – who imparts a Japanese influence and has been a tattoo artist for four years – brought a “pot-bot” to life on Shawn’s arm. Shawn came up with the “pot-bot” design himself.
I added the new photos to our growing collection of pot tattoos, presented here. These photos were gathered from friends, fans, employees, and even strangers. Pictures were taken on-scene by me, or submitted online.
