Craik, Saskatchewan, Canada — Field 05 is putting the culture back into agriculture. To be held in a lush field of industrial hemp on Saturday, August 20th, 2005 Field 05 features 24 hours of workshops, displays of environmental technology, music and cultural performances. A family friendly event, Field 05 has something for people from all parts of Saskatchewan.
“Field is a unique and special show that we have worked very hard to put together,” says Pat McCauley, event organizer. “It’s very rare that an event has something for both rural farmers and urban youth.”
Field 05 starts at 11:00am on Saturday morning with the Industrial Hemp field day. On hand for the field day will be Rod Haugerud, Mayor of Craik, Arthur Hanks, Canadian Hemp Trade Alliance (CHTA), Jason Finnis, Hemptown Clothing, and Kevin Friesen, Agricultural Manager for Hemptown.
“Because of Hemptown’s intention to build a hemp fibre processing plant in Craik, there has been a lot of interest in the crop but many local farmers have not yet planted or have had real experience with hemp,” says Hanks. “The field day will give them the opportunity to look, smell and touch hemp while learning about cultivation, harvesting and the markets. Hemp acreage in Canada and Saskatchewan is the strongest it has been in 5 years, and opportunities to grow it will continue to develop.”
At 3:00 pm the music starts. Field 05 is also a showcase of the best in contemporary Saskatchewan and Prairie music. Music will start in the early afternoon of August 20th and will continue until early Sunday morning. Roots, folk, reggae, rock, funk, hip hop and electronica from some of the Prairies’ most exciting and progressive groups will provide for a high energy event. Fire dancing by Wild Fire rounds out the great list of performers. Full artists line up and schedule will be released shortly.
Certified organic bison and certified organic vegetarian dishes will be available for hungry concert growers. There will also be a beer garden on site as well as vendors selling non-alcoholic refreshments. Camping is available.
