Downer rules out Indonesian political tampering in Corby case

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer says Indonesia’s President cannot give an order to the judges who will pass sentence on alleged drug trafficker Schapelle Corby.

Mr Downer says whatever the judgement in the Corby case on Friday, it can be contested by either the defence or the prosecution.

Mr Downer says Australia is dealing with a democratic Indonesia and an independent Indonesian judiciary.
