A study published in the May 2003 issue of the journal Pain showed that the synthetic cannabinoid WIN55 reduced pain experienced by mice with tumors by about 50%.
A separate study in the April 2003 issue of the Journal of Neuroscience showed that cannabinoids reduce the amount of pain caused by demyelination ? the loss of myelin, a substance that insulates nerve endings. Multiple sclerosis is one of many demyelinating diseases, which can result in severe pain and sensitivity to touch.
