ALEXANDER CITY, AL. ? June 28, 2003 (ALMJP) – U.S. Representative Robert Aderholt, R-Haleyville, will bring the nation’s “drug czar” to Guntersville on Monday, July 30 to talk about drug abuse in Alabama and the nation. The Alabama Marijuana Party will be in attendance to welcome U.S. Drug Czar John P. Walters.
Walters, as director of The Office of National Drug Control Policy, oversees the United States’ 11 billion dollar-a-year Drug War. The largest group of Americans arrested each year in the Drug War are marijuana smokers.
The Alabama Marijuana Party wishes for Mr. Walters to address the fact that the thirty-year drug war has failed to reduce supply or demand of illegal drugs. The Party also wishes to assert the opinion that the War on Drugs is a wasteful counter-productive government jobs program which creates the crime it claims to protect us from while trampling on the Bill of Rights in the process.
This event will take place at 11 a.m. at the Guntersville Senior Center. For reservations please call Morri Yancy at the Lake Guntersville Chamber of Commerce, 256-582-3612. The cost is $10.
The Alabama Marijuana Party is a Political Action Committee founded by Loretta Nall of Alexander City, in November 2002. The goal of the party is to legalize marijuana in the State of Alabama.
