Day of Action, Music & Fun

“Ask Ed” to speak, Redway, California
Marijuana Guru Ed Rosenthal to speak in Southern Humboldt March 22, 2003

The Civil Liberties Monitoring Project (CLMP) and Southern Humboldt Americans for Safe Access (SHASA) are co-sponsoring a day of education, music, food & fun, Sat, 3-22-03 at the Mateel Community Center in Redway, CA.

Americans for Safe Access (ASA) will present their “Legal Integrity” training at 3:00 PM. Medical cannabis patients and their care providers have expressed a great deal of concern about the recent legal battles over their medicine. There has been a need for accessible and current legal information that can assist them in bringing their activities in line with existing state laws. Humboldt county based marijuana attorney Ed Denson will be on hand during the training to add the local view. Free Admission for training!

The evening fundraising event features author, activist and worldwide authority on cannabis, Ed Rosenthal at 7:00 PM. Ed will speak out about his resent federal marijuana conviction. “THE FIGHT IS NOT OVER!” On Friday January 31, longtime activist Ed Rosenthal was convicted of marijuana cultivation. The charges are related to work he’d done to help patients, even though he’d been doing humanitarian work as a deputized officer of the City of Oakland, information that the jury was not allowed to hear. In an unusual show of solidarity with the man they had just convicted, six jurors from the trial issued a public apology to Ed and his family. The jurors demanded Judge Breyer to grant him a new trial. He faces a possible 40-year sentence and millions of dollars in fines, he is scheduled to be sentenced June 4, 2003. Ed is fighting this wrongful conviction, seeking a new trial and appeal of his conviction, but he needs your help!

There will be an “Ask Ed!” Q & A session. Ed will be on hand for book signing, including his two newest publications Ask Ed: Marijuana Gold – Trash to Stash and Marijuana Success Indoors Garden Tours and Tips.

The event will “rap up” with “Humboldt Hip-Hop” music. Remember SPANK? THE HUMBOLDT COUNTY FREESTYLE KINGS? Well, get ready to take it to another level with “UNPREDICTABLE INDIVIDUALS”, featuring… GARTH VADER! Since Reggae on the River 2001, Garth (VADER) Hudson, B. Swizlo, Chris Wixson, and Blair Shotts have steadily remained on the local music scene promoting Garth as a solo artist. In the past year, they had some serious fun playing in support of KID ROCK, B-REAL of CYPRESS HILL, and ZAPP. With the return of Jubal (TWO SON) Sherman, the group is ready to get back in the groove as a solid unit.

The cost of the evening event is $10 – 20 sliding scale. There will be a variety of foods for sale at the HempSeed Cafe. Donations of “Oh Mega ” blue corn chips with hulled hemp seed and “Sumativa” hemp seed blend coffee has been donated by Humboldt Hemp Foods.

Proceeds to benefit Southern Humboldt ASA – “Defending Medical Marijuana Patients Rights!” and Green-Aid -“The Medical Marijuana Legal Defense and Education Fund.” For more information or to volunteer 707-923-7292 or check out our web sites at www.safeaccessnow.org, www.civilliberities.org and www.green-aid.com.
