Petition for the Canadian government to change medpot laws

Quebec medical marijuana user Johnny Dupuis is fed up waiting for his exemption, and is circulating a Canada-wide petition asking the Canadian government to change its rules so the sick can use medical marijuana with no more than a doctor’s prescription (The petition is included below), circumventing the current, unworkable application process created by the Liberal government. Dupuis is one of thousands of sick and terminally-ill Canadians who have waited years for an exemption despite their doctors’ approval.
“Four and a half years ago, Bernard Bigras of the Bloc Quebecois brought a motion on medical marijuana before the House of Commons and 88% of MP’s voted yes for medical marijuana,” Dupuis told Cannnabis Culture. “So how come I still don’t have it? How come people who have them are unable to renew them? It’s a circus out there!”

After the historical House of Commmons vote, Health Canada created the Section 56 exemption process; then they replaced it with the Medical Marijuana Access Regulations (MMAR) when courts ruled that the Section 56 system was too vague, arbitrary and difficult. The MMAR, however, only made the same problems worse. Thousands of sick Canadians are currently without medicine, and others are subject to police raids and imprisonment at anytime for growing their own, despite their battles against terminal illnesses like Multiple Sclerosis, Epilepsy, Parkinson’s Disease, AIDS, Hepatitis and Cancer. For many, jail is a death sentence.

The following petition was drafted by Johnny Dupuis under consultation with the Federal Marijuana Party to address the concerns of sick Canadians who cannot get or renew their exemptions to use medical marijuana. Mr Dupuis’ MP, Mr Mario Lafranboise of the Block Quebecois, will be registering the petition in the house of commons.

Please print it out, circulate it and mail it to Johnny Dupuis by January 18, 2003, at the following address:
