African hempsters

Malawi’s Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Joe Manduwa, has been promoting hemp as an alternative to his nation’s failing tobacco market.
Manduwa is a member of the ruling United Democratic Front, and has been backed by opposition MP Heatherwick Ntaba. However, police have been opposing the idea, claiming it would be too difficult to control.

Meanwhile, a recent issue of South Africa’s Farmer’s Weekly magazine explains that the Eastern Cape province is investing millions of dollars in commercial hemp cultivation.
