What’s New at CC Online

I’m entering the sixth month of my latest tour of duty with CC Online, so I figured it’s a ripe time to make a statement about the latest developments on the site.

If you’re reading this, you’ve encountered our new Hotpot feature, presenting the newest news, information and upcoming events on our top page. Dana Larsen, our editor, likes this feature a lot, and he’s always got some sneak peeks from upcoming CC issues for our online readers. Check out the hotpot archive for more hotpot articles. Dana also presents his link of the moment, and a look at one of his favorite articles from the CC archives.

Speaking of the archive, ours is huge. The CC website had been up for almost 5 years now, and we’ve got 5 years of articles and information to show for it, but until lately it’s been a messy job trying to find what you want. I’ve done a bit of housecleaning lately, and there’s a new (mySQL) database to help sort it out. So you can now browse a good chunk of our 1000+ articles by subject in the new CC archive. I’ll be adding a new search engine too, because the old one didn’t work too well.

If you’re the type who would rather drool than read, I’ve got a new version of our bud library, where you can look at some of our 200+ budshots. We’re adding more all the time; our Chief Deputy Online Budmaster, Sijay, tells me he’s got a few hundred more to go online soon. If you can’t decide which buds to look at, our Random Bud Generator can solve your problems.

This week I’m adding a new discussion forum to the site, and hopefully it will be better than the old forum; if you’re a regular user of the discussion forums be sure to let me know what you think. In the coming weeks we’re going to have some discussion forums with regular hosts like Marc Emery, DJ Short, Pete Brady, Reverend Damuzi, Matt Elrod, David Malmo-Levine, and Dana Larsen.

This is the spot where I pitch how great the site is and thank you for checking us out. Well, we’ve got a great site with some great content, as even US Drug Czar Barry McCaffery knows. I have to give credit where credit is due; since Tim Reid originally put the magazine online in 1995, a lot of people have contributed to the site, including Keith Hentschel, Will Griffin and myself, not to mention all of our contributing writers and artists. Most importantly, of course, are the visitors who come to the site to pick up some nasty information and spread it around, sabotaging decades of DARE propaganda. Cheers to all of you.
